This weekend marks the beginning of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, where world-class athletes from 85 countries will compete for the “Gold.”
We want to specifically wish the USA and its team members good luck as they represent our wonderful country in their quest for Olympic success.
The Winter Olympics will always have special meaning to The Markie Foundation. Twelve years ago, co-founder Joe Wuelfing was honored to carry the Olympic Flame as it passed through Sacramento on its way to Salt Lake City for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.
Nominated by his Aunt Anne Pearce, Joe carried the torch on behalf of The Markie Foundation and in honor of terminally ill children and their families around the world.
With many family and friends on-hand to cheer him on, it was a remarkable experience filled with both charity and patriotism.
