After a year off, annual event raises a record $45,000+ for children’s hospice and palliative care.
On Friday, July 9, 2021, approximately 180 golfers and dinner guests participated in The Markie Foundation 21st Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Callippe Preserve Golf Course in Pleasanton, California, raising more than $45,000 to support children’s hospice and palliative care. This marks another record amount, well surpassing the $25,000 raised in 2019 and bringing the organization’s total funds raised since inception to approximately $500,000.
It was a celebratory occasion and reunion of sorts, after the event was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19.
“What an overwhelming turnout and show of support, after not being able to host our event last year,” said Janis Wuelfing, Co-Founder of The Markie Foundation. “Clearly we have an amazing group of supporters committed to helping us make a difference in the lives of terminally ill children and their families. We’re humbled to make a direct impact on others in need, in honor of our son Markie, with the generosity of so many people.”
Foundation Disburses Another $50,000 to Four Organizations
During the dinner banquet, The Markie Foundation announced its 2021 disbursements as follows:
- $25,000 to George Mark Children’s House for specialized patient lift beds and various therapy programs
- $15,000 to UC Davis Foundation for pediatric bereavement services and a specialized pediatric resource specialist position
- $5,000 to Hinds Hospice for its Hinds Kids Pediatric Program and in celebration of the organization’s 40th Anniversary
- $5,000 to Okizu for the continued recovery of its childhood cancer camp property following last year’s wildfires
Beneficiaries were on hand to address and thank The Markie Foundation and its supporters.
