Disbursements help support additional families in need, while raising awareness of children’s hospice.
As a result from many generous donations the past two years, The Markie Foundation is honored to donate a total of $21,500 in 2014 to the following four worthy organizations:
- George Mark Children’s House ($12,500)—We continue to support this one-of-a-kind, remarkable home for families caring for terminally ill children. Specifically, our funds will support the organization’s transitional care and respite care programs. Additionally, we are supporting an NBC Universal LifeLine program with Larry King raising awareness of the need for children’s hospice services.
- Coastal Kids Home Care ($5,000)—This first-time beneficiary provides valuable care to underserved families with terminally ill children. Specifically, our funds will support the organizations’ Treatment for Life-Threatening Conditions (TLC) program, the only service delivering pediatric palliative and end-of-life care along California’s Central Coast.
- Children’s Hospice & Palliative Care Coalition ($2,500)—One of our long-term beneficiaries and children’s hospice partners, CHPCC continues to advocate for terminally ill children and their families. Specifically, our funds enabled several families to attend California’s Public Policy Day in Sacramento, to help further raise awareness of the need for children’s hospice care.
- Hinds Hospice ($1,500)—Another long-term beneficiary, Hinds Hospice is expanding its services to serve the growing needs of families in its area. Specifically, our funds will support the organization’s Pediatric Palliative Care Program, which served 476 children in 2013.
“We are honored to support these four wonderful organizations,” said co-founder Janis Wuelfing. “Each one delivers unique care, services, and advocacy, while aligning directly with our mission to make a difference in the lives of terminally ill children and their families. Joe and I know first-hand the life-changing care these organizations provide, and we are grateful to partner with them in serving additional families. At a time when these services are inadequately covered by healthcare reimbursement, our disbursements have a direct, positive impact on many lives. We are humbled to share this accomplishment with our many generous donors, who continue to support our cause and those in need.”
