2023 golf tournament recap

July 14, 2023

Annual event and donations net $45,000 for children's hospice, resulting in disbursements to five beneficiaries.

On Friday, July 14, 2023, The Markie Foundation hosted its 23rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Callippe Preserve Golf Course in Pleasanton, California. Once again, we were blessed with a full field of golfers, as well as several dinner guests, coming together to support children’s hospice. Combined with additional donations, the event helped raise more than $45,000 this year, the majority of which has been distributed to multiple beneficiaries (see more below.

“It was another wonderful day of golf and charity for The Markie Foundation, with so many people making it possible — our participants, sponsors, volunteers, guests, and donors. Each year, we’re humbled by the generosity of our supporters, and this year was no different,” said Janis Wuelfing, Co-Founder of The Markie Foundation. “As a result, we raised another significant amount of funds for children’s hospice and those in need. Thank you to everyone who continues to support our cause, help us honor Markie, and make a difference in the lives of terminally ill children and their families.”

Foundation Disburses Another $42,500 to Five Beneficiaries
During the dinner banquet, The Markie Foundation announced its 2023 disbursements to five beneficiaries, including two first-time recipients:

  • $20,000 to George Mark Children’s House for its new art therapy program, providing children and families a unique form of creative/expressive therapy.
  • $10,000 to Kara (new beneficiary) for grief therapy and services for children, teens, and their families experiencing the death of a loved one.
  • $5,000 to Hinds Hospice for ongoing support of their Angel Babies and HindsKids pediatric hospice programs.
  • $5,000 to Okizu for support services for children and families affected by cancer, including its SIBS (sibling) camp.
  • $2,500 to Taylor Family Foundation (new beneficiary) for its wellness services and camps for children with life-threatening and chronic illnesses.

Representatives from both George Mark Children’s House and Hinds Hospice were in attendance to share their gratitude and demonstrate the impact The Markie Foundation is having through its support of invaluable children’s hospice and pediatric palliative care services.

Since its inception, The Markie Foundation has raised more than $500,000 — half of a million dollars! — to support children’s hospice.

Thanks again to all our sponsors, donors, participants, and volunteers for your continued support. We couldn’t do it without you!
